Ladybirds Class

Ladybirds is the first class at Middleton Church of England Primary Academy. Miss King is our class teacher, Mrs. Bennett is our Early Years Educator and often Mrs. Bailey helps us out too! We have Nursery and Reception children in Ladybirds, we are a small class with less than twenty children in on most days.

Class News

Happy New year to you all! We hope everyone enjoyed their Christmases. It is a short half- term, just over five weeks so we've got a lot to fit in.

Our topic for this half term is Antarctica. We will be looking at the continent of Antarctica, where it is on a globe, how far it is from the equator, what the landscape is like, which animals call it their home and the natural beauty and wonder associated with the area.

We also have an exciting visit booked for the end of January from Zoo Lab. African animals including bearded dragons and giant African land snails will be brought into school for an exciting and informative workshop. This will add to the depth of knowledge Ladybirds have following our Nigerian topic last half term.

As we move further on in the academic year, the timetable will become more and more structured to help Reception children transition into key stage one. Therefore, the time Reception children have to engage in continuous provision will become less. If you have any questions about this please come and speak to me.

A weekly phonics home learning sheet will continue to be sent home to allow parents to engage with their child's phonics learning. It will include which sounds we are focusing on that week, what words we will be reading/spelling and how you can help your child to learn at home.

Ladybirds timetabled PE session will be a Friday afternoon. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school on Fridays. It is also helpful to send a spare pair of clothes in with your child in case of accidents or messy play! If you could label everything that would be super helpful.

All children should have a labelled water bottle in school. The can also bring in a healthy snack for snack time.

Your child will be sent home with a reading record, please write down any reading your child does at home, this includes being read to! This is a great way for them to earn Dojo points and have a chance at winning the weekly certificate.

Please let me know if you have any trouble accessing class Dojo, you can speak to me at school or email me at k.king@middleton.dneat.org.
